Fishy User Guide

Welcome to Fishy - your personal fishing journal that helps you track catches, manage gear, and discover insights about your fishing adventures. All your data stays private on your device.

Getting Started

First Launch

When you first open Fishy, you'll be greeted with a subscription screen. Fishy offers:

Already subscribed? Tap Restore Purchases to restore your subscription on a new device.

Navigation

Fishy uses a simple 5-tab navigation at the bottom of the screen:

Logging Catches

Tap the Add tab (plus icon) to log a new catch. You can record as much or as little detail as you like.

Basic Information

Fishing Method

Choose from 8 fishing styles:

Catch Status

Toggle whether you released or kept the fish. You can set your default preference in Profile settings.

Adding Photos

Capture the moment with photos:

You can add multiple photos per catch. If your photos contain location data (GPS), Fishy can automatically extract this information.

Location

Record where you caught the fish:

Location details include: location name, GPS coordinates, water body type, region and country, and personal notes about the spot.

Weather Conditions

Track the conditions when you caught the fish:

Weather data tracked: temperature, weather conditions, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, and water temperature.

Gear Used

Record what equipment you used:

Notes

Add any additional observations, techniques used, or memories about the catch.

Saving Your Catch

Tap Save to store your catch. It will appear in your Catches list and be included in your statistics.

Managing Your Catches

Tap the Catches tab (list icon) to view all your logged catches.

Catches List

Each catch card displays:

Sorting & Filtering

Sort options: Newest first (default), Oldest first

Filter by: Species, Fishing style, or combine multiple filters. Clear all filters with one tap.

Viewing Catch Details

Tap any catch to see full details including photo gallery, complete measurements, location with map preview, weather summary, gear used, your notes, and photo metadata.

Editing & Deleting

From the catch detail view, tap Edit to modify any information. Delete by swiping left on the catch in the list or from the detail view. A confirmation dialog will appear before deletion.

Sharing a Catch

From the catch detail view, tap the Share button. Customize what to include: location information, photos, and gear details. Share via Messages, Email, social media, or any other iOS sharing option.

Gear Library

Tap the Gear tab (wrench icon) to manage your fishing equipment.

Adding Gear

Add individual pieces of equipment with details like:

Rigs

Rigs are pre-configured combinations of gear for specific fishing styles. Instead of selecting individual items each time you log a catch, select a rig to quickly record all your equipment.

Creating a Rig

  1. Go to the Rigs section in Gear Library
  2. Tap Add Rig
  3. Name your rig
  4. Select the fishing style
  5. Choose components: Rod, Reel, Line, Lure or Fly
  6. Add a description (optional)
  7. Add a photo (optional)
  8. Save

Statistics & Analytics

Tap the Statistics tab (chart icon) to explore insights about your fishing activity.

Overview

Your statistics dashboard with key metrics: total catches, unique species caught, success metrics, and fishing frequency trends.

Top performers are highlighted with gold, silver, and bronze badges.

Location Heatmap

An interactive map showing your fishing spots with satellite imagery, color-coded markers (green to red based on catch count), and tap-to-view location details.

Weather Analytics

Discover weather patterns that lead to success: best fishing temperature, productive conditions, wind patterns, pressure trends, and water temperature correlations.

Memory Lane

A timeline view of your fishing journey: catches on this date in previous years, milestones and achievements, year selector, and chronological timeline.

Default Catch & Release

Toggle on to set "Released" as the default when logging new catches.

Manage Species

Access the species database to browse, search, add custom species, edit, and view scientific names and categories.

Data Management

Export All Data

Create a backup of your entire fishing journal: all catches and photos, gear library, locations, custom species, and settings. The export can be saved or shared.
